If you do fitness on an irregular basis, summer is not the best time to increase the load. In the heat, the atmospheric pressure changes, and you can get heart and blood vessel problems. Therefore, one can apply many ways to lose weight and get one’s body in shape without much effort, just enjoying the summer days.

Enjoy Summer Activities to Lose Weight

It is easy to lose weight in summer if there is a river, lake, sea, or pool nearby. Swimming is not only the easiest method to lose weight, but also a great exercise for muscles, i.e., you not only burn calories and lose extra pounds but also make your body stronger. Beach volleyball, surfing, kayaking, and diving are just a few of the sports that you can enjoy in the summer while losing weight and saying cellulite bye! Invite your friends, and make it your goal to become a professional beach volleyball player, or just play for fun!

Eat Fruit Salads

Watermelons, melons, cherries, strawberries, peaches, kiwi, and other juicy fruits are the key to painless weight loss. Since the summer heat and fruit salads are the perfect combinations, you have another good reason not to give up this wonderful method. Fresh fruits are surprisingly low in calories and will also fill your body with enough vitamins so you won’t need anything. By the way, it’s a good idea to eat more grapefruits. They are sour and bitter, and many people don’t like them, but grapefruit helps burn fat. Grapefruit regulates insulin levels, helping you burn calories instead of storing them.

Say Yes to Vegetables

If you also think that if you replace sweets with fruit salads — this is what you need to lose weight, then you will not mind making salads from any vegetables that you find in the fridge. For example, green salad leaves are low in calories and are tasty enough.

Eat Watermelon

Scientists from the University of Kentucky have discovered that watermelon consumption can significantly reduce body fat. This fruit is amazing in taste, while having a few calories, and a refreshing effect on a hot day: watermelon helps to manage a stable energy level and hydration allowing to abandon high-calorie sports drinks.

Drink Plenty of Water

Maintaining your water balance is an important part of losing weight. Water will help eliminate toxins that interfere with normal metabolism, extreme hunger and will do wonders for your skin, hair, and nails.

Related: How to Actually Drink Enough Water Each Day

Make Homemade Lemonades

It would be much easier to lose weight if you ban drinking these tempting carbonated refreshments. But what if you cook something like that yourself? You can add fresh fruit, mint to them and create your own healthy lemonade without affecting your figure.

Choose an Alternative Transport

Busy buses and subways are a nightmare that gets worse in the summer heat. What about a bike or roller skates? This is a great way to get from point A to point B without using public transport and saving money. Plus, it’s another painless way to lose weight in the summer.

Get Up Early

Waking up early in the morning, eating breakfast, and exercising while the body is ready to burn calories and turn them into clean energy is also a way to lose weight. But why do it in the summer? Because the sun rises earlier in summer, which means you will not feel completely overwhelmed.

Do you have your own exclusive methods of losing weight? Share your ideas with us!

With the lockdown and social distancing rules, it’s getting increasingly difficult to stay active. Changes that are disrupting your routine can affect your mental health. We will explore 5 ways exercise can benefit your mental health.

In these extraordinary circumstances, we need to invest even more effort and creativity into staying healthy and resilient. Exercise remains the most powerful ally in this pursuit, as it’s one of the most effective strategies that help you stay healthy both physically and mentally.

Build up Your Confidence

Physical accomplishments are as impressive as those of your intellect. You don’t have to be a professional athlete to appreciate your physical output. You can undoubtedly commend yourself on all the challenges you overcome to reach your weekly training milestones. Staying active can not only build up your confidence, but it can impact your mental health too.

Amplified Energy Levels

Photo: Georgie Cobbs/Unsplash

You might think that adding more exercise to your schedule will only make you feel exhausted. The opposite is exact! Regular training and physical activity allow you to fight fatigue, sluggishness, and energy levels. Exercise boosts your immune system, strength, and stamina, increasing your energy levels over time. In the current situation, however, many people lack the much-needed zeal to stick to their training routine.

Including exercise into your daily life can benefit not only your energy levels but also your mental health.

Following in the footsteps of many versed athletes, you can buy the best whey protein online and use them to amplify your energy levels for your workout. Pre-workout supplements can make it easier for the body to recover after training. They also help you stay focused during your workout so that you can prevent injuries and focus on correct movement execution. Exercise paired with the right diet and supplementation can work wonders for your energy levels for the long haul.

Reducing Stress and Anxiety Will Have a Big Impact on Your Mental Health

Photo by Chelsea Gates on Unsplash

Your increased heart rate during exercise, paired with the influx of happy hormones such as endorphins, helps your brain beat stress and tension that builds up every day. On a chemical level, your workouts give you the whole brain and mood boost to start your day on a positive, self-affirming note. Reducing stress and anxiety can have a significant impact on your mental health.

On a more psychological level, sticking to your workout routine allows you to realize that you’re overcoming obstacles through your training every day. Every time you push through a challenging set and move your boundaries just a little bit, you’re actively improving your endurance and strength, and your mental resilience, too. Workouts aren’t just a reflection of your physical fitness. They show that you’re willing to go outside your comfort zone and work on yourself. That alone is an authoritative source of inspiration to banish stress and feel more empowered than ever.

Fast food, the mere option of takeout, and other convenient eating solutions, it’s all too easy to lose motivation to stick to your nutrient-dense eating regime. Building healthy habits can be difficult, especially when you try to establish them separately. However, when you introduce regular workouts, you’re already vested enough to start adapting your diet.

As your body changes, when you shed fat and build lean muscle, you’ll feel more inspired to clean up your menu. Making healthier and self-care decisions is another reflection of self-love, and another step towards a healthy attitude towards your mental health. The food you eat will, in turn, fuel you with more energy and positivity, so the benefits are double when it comes to eating well thanks to your training routine.

Sleep Quality

To balance your hormones, regulate your stress levels, and have enough energy, you need sleep quality, and consistently so. When you spend most of your time passive and without any physical or mental stimulation, your body gets restless. Making your sleeping patterns become more erratic, and the overall quality of your downtime is compromised. Exercise helps regulate all of these issues simply because when you stay active and get tired just enough, your circadian rhythm will become more balanced.

However, it’s important to avoid working out too late in the evening and just before bedtime. Light stretching and breathing exercises are the right choices, but intense workouts should be scheduled earlier in the day.

Your mental health depends on a slew of different factors, and they all heavily depend on how active you are. We might have adapted over time to lead predominantly sedentary lives, but that is by no means an excuse to avoid physical activity. On the contrary, for those wanting to feel better in their skin, have more energy, regulate their mood and stress levels, and become more resilient, exercise is the critical component in achieving all of those goals. Don’t shy away from being active at home or finding ways to incorporate more physical activity during the pandemic – use your creativity, and you’ll see how your wellbeing responds to your efforts and how exercise can benefit your mental health.

Obesity has reached epidemic proportions as more than 55% of American adults are either overweight or obese. The main reason for this weight gain is our unhealthy lifestyle that includes sitting for long periods, minimal exercise, and an unhealthy diet that is high in sugars and fats. Stress also plays a vital role in increasing the risk of unhealthy eating habits such as bingeing on high-calorie “comfort foods.” Most people believe that they would need to overhaul their lives to lose weight completely, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. There are several small tricks and habits for weight loss that will help you achieve your weight goals.

Trying to do too much too quickly is guaranteed to end in you falling off the weight-loss wagon. The simplest and easiest method to achieve a healthy body weight is to start small and slowly increase your pace. Here are a few tips to help you get started on your weight loss journey.

Cut Back on Carbs

People who follow low carb diets often experience more significant short-term weight loss than people on low-fat diets. More importantly, studies show that low-carb diets are associated with less fatigue, hunger, and stomach problems than low-fat diets. However, not all carbs are equal. Healthy carbs such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables provide plenty of additional nutrients, while refined carbs such as sugar, white bread, and sodas offer little to no nutrition. Eliminate or drastically reduce your intake of carbs so that 30-40% of your daily calorie intake comes from carbs, a moderately-low carb diet.

Increase your Protein Intake

A diet that is higher in protein can help to prevent and treat obesity. Meals that are high in protein result in modulations in appetite, calorie intake, and energy metabolism. Data from various studies indicate that including at least 25-30 grams of protein in each meal improves appetite and aid bodyweight management. Higher-protein diets also help to improve cardiometabolic risk factors such as cholesterol and blood pressure levels, which have a positive impact on heart health and overall health. Unlike other weight-loss diets that result in muscle loss, high protein diets show more significant fat mass loss with the preservation of lean muscle mass.

Have an Early Lunch

There’s no denying that what we eat affects our body weight, but recent research shows that when we eat might play a significant role in weight management. The concept that the human body reacts differently to food based on the day is not a new one, as this idea can be traced to ancient Chinese medicine. Researchers found that test participants who ate lunch early lose more weight and have a faster weight-loss rate than those who eat a late lunch, even though both groups were following the same weight loss diet. This indicates that eating an early lunch could be one of the simplest habits for weight loss.

Set Measurable Exercise Goals

According to health experts, you should avoid vague goals like “I will walk more each day” and instead have concrete, measurable goals such as “I will walk for 15 minutes every day”. When starting a new weight-loss fitness routine, make sure that you start slow and gradually increase the duration and intensity of each session. Avoid high-stress activities such as running until you have reached your ideal body weight as these exercises will put a lot of stress on your knee and ankle joints. Swimming, water aerobics, and walking are perfect weight-loss exercises for overweight and obese individuals.

Reward Success

A weight-loss diet and exercise routine requires self-control and self-discipline. Most people are excited when they start their weight loss program, but their enthusiasm begins to wane in a matter of days. A simple way to stay motivated is to acknowledge and reward your success. Never use food as a reward. Instead, you can treat yourself to a spa day or that new phone you’ve been eyeing. This is a simple way to ensure success as it reduces your stress and increases your resilience. You can set up a reward system to get regular small rewards and more enormous rewards for specific milestones.

Planning is an essential aspect of weight loss, but it’s equally vital that you get started. Don’t wait for the ideal conditions to put your plan into action. Instead, find ways to implement your plan, despite the obstacles. In addition to following these habits for weight loss, you can also use natural weight loss supplements such as green coffee extract as they could aid your weight loss efforts. You can again try a more holistic approach, such as intermittent fasting, to speed up your weight loss. However, it is crucial that you first talk to your doctor to ensure that there is no negative impact on your overall health.

The 1985 classic Pee-wee’s Big Adventure is fun not only because of its indisputable comedy and excellent acting crew but also because of its fun-packed cross-country journey. It merely makes you feel good about your life. And imagine if you were the hero of the story (only without the stolen cherry-red vintage Schwinn)…

Besides the obvious physical benefits, cycling brings a bunch of mental health perks onto the table, especially when you approach it as an adventure rather than a chore. So, here’s a suggestion: why wouldn’t you cycle your way through America and discover some of the best bike trails in the country? Here’s how it can help boost your mental and physical health.

Pedaling to a Better Mood

A 2012 study included volunteers pedaling stationary bikes while observing videos of a green, leafy cycling trail. The results showed that the volunteers are experiencing less negative thoughts and a better overall mood. Other studies also dealt with outdoor physical activities such as cycling and showed that they could reduce the symptoms of anxiety and depression.

The combination of being active and spending time in nature can’t be bad for you, but the degree of positivity you’ll experience depends on numerous factors. That’s why it would be best not to take our word for it – try it yourself!

Empowering Your Brain

Practicing a motor skill, such as riding a bike, helps maintain the integrity of white matter in the brain. This means improved connectivity and better cognitive abilities. It also has a beneficial effect on a protein called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which creates new neurons and maintains the existing ones. This protects you from various neurological conditions.

In general, aerobic exercise is beneficial for the brain because it maintains optimal blood flow to the brain and supplies the brain with oxygen and nutrients. To translate, cycling makes your mind sharp and your memory just right.

Practicing Mindfulness

If you cycle regularly, you probably know the feeling when you’re on some of the best bike trails, with a gentle breeze in your face, the road ahead, and your mind clear. Many people have associated this feeling with meditation. And indeed, cycling enables you to be fully aware of the present moment and experience clarity, positivity, and inner peace. The benefits of meditation are multiple. While we’re still waiting for indisputable scientific confirmation, some studies are confirming that meditation improves concentration, awareness, and memory.

Weight Loss and Fitness

Promoting weight loss, building muscle, and improving fitness are just some of the perks of getting on your ride and hitting the bike trails throughout the country. Your body burns between 400 and 1000 calories in just an hour of cycling. Your calves, quads, hamstrings, and glutes will be as tight as they can be. A study by the Healthy Air Campaign showed that the lungs of a cyclist operate better than those of a driver. Finally, all those bike rides will have an incredible effect on your immune system and heart health. So, if you’re struggling with embarking on the weight loss journey, I hope these benefits help you choose your way.

Best Bike Trails in America

So, if you want to achieve mindfulness, boost brain function, work on your physical fitness, and all that while you are exploring the most beautiful sceneries of your country, you need to explore the best bike trails in America and choose the one you’d enjoy the most – or perhaps try them all out when you get the time. Here are a couple of excellent options to consider:

One of the longest and the most interesting is the Southern Delaware Heritage Bike Trail. It features 130 miles of local roads and incredible views.

There is also The Silver Comet Trail, which is entirely paved and offers the chance to see pinelands and a historic trestle.

The Natchez Trace Parkway leads from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee (444 miles), so it’s not your average trail, but the wooded acreages and beautiful farmlands make the road feel far shorter than it is.

Of course, these are just a select few, and there are nearly 50,000 miles of bike-friendly trails in the U. S.

With the constant commotion of daily lives, we cannot help being succumbed by some stressful situations. From job obligations and work-related agitation to minor daily challenges, stress has simply become a part of life. If you get entangled with your worries and not do something that will help you let loose and feel at ease, your state may accumulate and worsen, and then stress could even lead to some severe illnesses. The key is to get active and stay in motion for stress relief. Doing some form of physical activity will shift your focus to mindful thinking and make you will more serene, energetic, and your old self. Numerous activities can help you relieve stress, and here are the most effective ones.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a well-know Chinese martial art that involves doing slow movements with a focus on deep breathing. It is also often called a ‘meditation in motion’ since it automatically relaxes your muscles, and promotes the focus on the mental absorption of mundane daily worries. However, one of the most crucial and practical benefits of tai chi is its superb ability to reduce stress and anxiety levels through those slow movements. What is more, if you implement a habit of practicing tai chi regularly, you will improve your flexibility, boost energy levels, and have a more restful sleep, all of which are contributing to tranquil mental stability. Moreover, this is a rather safe and inexpensive activity which you can practice wherever you are.

Yoga

Practicing yoga daily is like doing total detoxification of your entire organism. Yoga is a fantastic mindful activity that not only helps you relieve stress, but it can reduce blood pressure, make you more mentally healthy, psychologically stable, and physically fit. While doing yoga, you are incorporating light exercise with relaxing physical movement, controlled breathing, and meditation. All of those activities provide excellent stress relief from all the things that have been troubling yours. Some yoga postures might be demanding as they enhance strength and stamina, while others utilize deep breathing techniques that enable your muscles to calm. You only need to find a perfect balance between the relaxation postures and intense training.

Martial Arts

There is no doubt that good boxing or Muay Thai session can help you release all the negative tension that has been piling up. You can easily let all your worries out on the mats or in the ring while breaking a sweat. It is a known fact that stress is the fundamental cause of more than 6 percent of all human illness, and if you require a productive and forceful stress reliever, then you should try martial arts. As martial arts represent a great way to break the tension out by doing hard and strong physical movements and cardio workouts, you might want to get the most quality ankle supports to protect your ankles, joints, and wrists from potential injuries. These sports may have a higher risk of damages, so you had better search for some sites to find the best equipment on the market.

Brisk walking

Any physical activity triggers the release of endorphins that stimulate relaxation and relieve pain. And the higher levels of endorphins, the calmer you will feel. If you are not much of a sporty type or you simply don’t prefer doing exercises, there is one physical activity that can still boost the release of endorphins and helps you relieve stress, and that is walking. Brisk walking includes faster and more agile movements, but you don’t need to push hard. Actually, by walking around the neighborhood, or anywhere else on fresh air, you can equally decrease anxiety levels and enhance the positive state of mind just as if you have spent an hour in a gym. Invite a friend and family to join you in brisk walking. Social support form loved one’s lower levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, and improves stress resilience.

Cycling

If you spend a lot of time indoors, surrounded by unadorned walls, you will experience stress at one point in your life. If you have to commute to work every day, you may substitute cycling over driving. Going for a bike ride instead of driving a car is proven to be a fruitful de-stressing activity. Many people don’t show up to work because they are under stress, and the best way to avoid that feeling is to get up on your bike. The benefits are innumerable. You are always out on fresh air, you are getting some active adrenaline boost, and when you turn your pedals, you begin to get your blood pumping. Thus you are enhancing your mood and feeling happier.

Meditation

Any form of physical movement does your body good. Meditation comprises various internal and mental activities that offer short-term stress relief as well as long-lasting stress-coping mechanisms. If you practice meditation for stress relief, you will surely find your inner peace quickly and effectively. The best thing about meditation is that is doesn’t require any special equipment, and you can do it anywhere you desire. All it takes is taking a few minutes in a serene and secluded area to practice mindfulness. With meditation, be assured that you will reduce negative emotions like depression and anger, manage your stress levels, and fertilize self-awareness.

Swimming

Swimming is a marvelous physical activity that helps bump up the production of endorphins, and as you begin to shed your daily tension with swimming, you will feel calm and stress-free in no time. As you do several laps in the pool, you will forget about the day’s irritation and feel refreshed and re-energized. Swimming is also associated with a healthy heart, so you will lower the risk of potential cardiovascular problems and immediately improve your immune system. What is more, swimming truly represents a whole-body activity that will help you relieve stress and worries.

Focus on doing things you love, never compromise on doing activities that don’t suit you. Set smart goals, eat a healthy diet, go out as often as possible, be surrounded by gregarious people, and change some of your old habits with healthier alternatives. With those things in mind, and by doing some of these physical activities, you have the perfect stress-relieving recipe.

The scientific dog-human bond was first researched over 30 years ago by psychologist, Alan Beck and psychiatrist, Aaron Katcher. The two documented what happens to the human body when a person pets a familiar dog. Immediately, they noticed that the person’s heart-rate began to slow, and their breathing became more regular. These beloved four-pawed animals play an essential role in our lives, emotionally and physically. This is why the world needs more yoga and puppies.

As time passed, the person’s blood pressure also decreased, and their muscles were less tense. Each of these indicators was signs of reduced stress and confirmed the health benefits of spending time with a dog. It’s no surprise that over 30 years later, a Toronto couple has fused the idea of playing with puppies and exercising.

Calling All Dog Lovers

Lisa and Leo are a Toronto couple who have always been dog lovers, “but as busy professionals, we don’t have time to own a dog,” Lisa explains, “When we heard about yoga and puppies popping up in different cities in the US and Canada, we thought it would be a great opportunity for us to combine our love for yoga and spend time with some puppies, so in 2018, we started Pups Yoga.”

Time to De-stress

It’s a brilliant idea, considering hundreds of dogs are surrendered in Toronto every year, often by people who realize their busy professional lifestyles are not conducive to owning one. Pups Yoga offers those dog lovers, who are unable to adopt, the chance to interact with puppies while de-stressing the Beck & Katcher way.

The couple even collaborates with the Toronto Humane Society for special events. According to Makyla Deleo, Public Relations Specialist at the THS, Pups Yoga isn’t just beneficial for humans – it’s advantageous for the puppies too. “It’s a great chance for pups to meet new people and socialize,” Makyla explains, “Yoga is a relaxing experience, so while the groups are somewhat large, the energy level is relatively low, and our supporters are quite respectful of the animals.”

Keeping the Puppies Happy

As an animal lover myself, I had to ask Makyla if there could be any adverse effects on the puppies. “There could be.” She illuminates, “If the litter was shy or under-socialized and they were let loose in a large group of people, with minimal supervision, they could become quite stressed. Class lengths could run too long, or appropriate breaks may not be given to the animals, leading to physical stress as well.

Also, if the organization is not sourcing their puppies from reputable breeders, they could be supporting puppy mills or backyard breeders. This further confirms that it is crucial to ensure we are supporting a reliable puppy and yoga organizer. It’s also essential for attendees to pay close attention to how the animals are being treated, as this is not a regulated industry.

The Pups Yoga Class

Lisa invited me out to one of her Pups Yoga classes, insisting it was something I had to experience first-hand to understand the joy it truly brings. I headed over on a sunny Sunday morning, which, in my opinion, is the perfect day to get in a good yoga and puppies session. On this day, the puppies were a German-Shepherd/Border Collie mix. The type of puppies frequently changes, which gives patrons the option to come back and meet a new litter and breed almost every week.

There are three classes: 10:00am, 11:15am, and 12:30pm. Each class is an hour, with extra time left at the end for photos and puppy cuddles. The puppies are most energetic in the first class and gradually calm down toward the last class, some even fall asleep in your arms or piled on top of one another. I took the 11:15 am class.

Right away, I was in heaven. There is a lot of commotion when you walk into the room between the puppies running around, and everyone excited to see them. Two girls sat at the side of the room, gently petting three puppies they found piled on top of one another sleeping peacefully. The rest of the litter ran around freely, sometimes biting each other’s ears or stopping to sniff a person’s toes. I laid my mat down in the center of the room, right in front of the instructor, Madhuri, who had that peaceful yogi aura that all great instructors exude.

The Best Class Ever

She stood patiently and enjoyed the moment as she giggled at participants gushing over the puppies. “It is a wonderful feeling to see people smiling,” Madhuri enlightened, “They always enter, letting out a few aww’s an exit with a big grin. It fills me with satisfaction. There’s nothing better than de-stressing people. I feel blessed to be able to do it.”

As the yoga and puppies class began, you could tell that some people were there to partake in yoga, some people just came to see the puppies, and some people wanted to do a bit of both. “You get people who come for different reasons.” Madhuri elaborated, “It doesn’t bother me if some people aren’t concentrating on their moves. I just keep teaching and love watching people enjoy the experience. It truly is my dream job.” I happened to be one of the people who came for a yoga class but also wanted to play with puppies.

A Unique Class

Although there are distractions in the class, I found that it forced me to have more awareness, which is a big focus on yoga. I remained focused on Madhuri’s voice and on positioning myself correctly. The puppies didn’t interrupt me because they had enough people in there to keep themselves busy, but when I wanted some attention, there was always one around willing to come and play with me. It’s noisier than a regular yoga class, but no one gets upset about it. Everyone got along well, and part of the pleasure in this experience is listening to the other people in the room radiated happiness.

Every time I leave a yoga class, I walk out in a calm trance, and there’s a stillness to the energy around me. When I left puppy yoga, I walked out feeling light, but giggly. It was a different feeling than a regular yoga class, less stillness, but more of energetic happiness. If dogs and yoga are both healthy ways to relieve stress, ease anxiety, and lower blood pressure, putting them together can only have positive benefits—more reasons why the world needs more yoga and puppies.

The entire experience will put you in a happy and energetic mood for the rest of the day. My favorite aspect of Pups Yoga is what Makyla from the Toronto Humane Society pointed out to me, which is that puppy and yoga classes promote and encourage animal adoption.
