How to Get Out of an Intimacy Drought in Your Relationship

Reading Time: 2 minutes

If you’re in a relationship and living with someone (especially those in long-term relationships and marriages), you might be experiencing an intimacy drought in your relationship during COVID19.

Sure, single people might think that this is the best time to be cuffed up, but not everyone is getting what they want out of their intimate lives with their partner, especially since we’re stressing over the news cycle every day.

If you’re worried you’re going to go broke, arguing over chores and stuck in the same house all the time, a rut is to be expected. Here are our top tips on how to get out of an intimacy drought in your relationship and feel sensual again.

Make It a Priority

Even though stress seems to be dominating everyone’s lives right now, you should let yourself indulge in well-tended sex life. To do that, both of you need to get on the same page and make it a priority. If you both care enough to make it happen, that’s what matters. Then again, be sensitive to your partner’s mental health right now and set some small measured goals to improve your intimacy drought.

Try Something New, or Work on Your Technique

If you guys prefer to keep things vanilla, consider honing your technique on a particular move that your partner loves. Otherwise, consider trying something new (within both of your comfort zones, of course). Turn the candles on, get the blindfold, and prepare for a night full of adventures. Don’t be afraid to ask your partner if there’s anything they’ve wanted to try, and be equally honest when they ask you.

Invest in a We-Vibe If You’re Long Distance

Long-distance relationships generally suck and are even worse when you throw a pandemic into the mix. If there’s no way to get intimate with your partner, consider an app or remote-controlled vibrator like the hands-free We-Vibe Sync, which lets you control their vibrations from afar with a wireless remote.

Get to Know Your Body

You know your body best after all…or, do you? The best way to get your mojo back is to have a steamy date night with yourself. Even if you’re in a relationship right now, using a toy or masturbating another way can sometimes bring back all the sexual confidence you need. Explore every inch of yourself without shame and embarrassment – maybe you can even invite your hubby to watch if you feel comfortable doing so.

Keep It Real

Most importantly, don’t let the elephant in the room take over your relationship. To get back to your normal level of bedroom spiciness, you have to always be real with each other, and not tiptoe around the subject. Otherwise, resentment might grow, and performance anxiety could also pop up when you do try to get freaky.
