This Gluten-Free Restaurant is Taking Hamilton by Storm

Gluten-free foods have surged in popularity. Whether you are sensitive to gluten or have celiac disease, many people are opting for gluten-free choices. However, if you are, in fact, celiac, some restaurants may not have a strict enough protocol.

A 100% Gluten-Free Restaurant

Take my husband’s uncle, for instance. He was the ultimate beer connoisseur and taught my husband everyone he knows about Belgian beers. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with celiac disease and is now the leading expert on ciders. When my husband’s uncle goes out to eat, sometimes he still gets sick even though the foods are labelled as gluten-free. Lucky for him, a restaurant opened in Hamilton called The Mule, that is 100% gluten-free. The chef, Matthew Kershaw, provides a twist on traditional Mexican fare. Plus, the place is always packed. I will give the seal of approval myself – I ate a meal there and it was delicious.

Indulging in Gluten-Free Eats

Now people with celiac or gluten sensitivities can enjoy every single thing on the menu (except for the beer, of course), and indulge in things they normally don’t get to enjoy. The menu does change, but there are a few staples. Here are the top menu items if you are looking to have a meal at the Mule.

The Brussels Sprout Taco

Even if you dreaded Brussels sprouts as a kid, this taco will knock your socks off. With a smoky and spicy recipe, I was surprised how much punch this one packed.  

Fried Calamari

How many people with celiac say they can eat calamari? This was some of the best calamari I’ve ever had – the perfect mix of crispy and chewy.  

Chicken Wings

Add Valentina hot sauce to anything, and I’m game. These deep-fried wings had a delicious rub added to them as well.
