The Turkey Recipe You Need, and the Perfect Gravy To Go With It

Thanksgiving Turkey

In honour of Thanksgiving, we wanted to share one of our favourite turkey and gravy recipes! This recipe is a family favourite, and is perfect for first time turkey-cookers!

TURKEY

What You’ll Need
– 1 12-15 pound whole turkey (neck and giblets removed)
– 2 lemons – cut in half
– 2 oranges – cut in half
– 1/4 cup olive oil
– Salt/Pepper

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 450F
2. Stuff lemon and orange halves into turkey cavity
3. Rub turkey with olive oil and season liberally with salt and pepper
4. Place turkey on a rack in roasting pan, breast side up
5. Roast at 450F, uncovered for 10 minutes
6. Reduce heat to 325F
7. Tent turkey with foil and continue roasting for 4-5 hours (20 minutes per pound)
8. Uncover turkey for the last hour of cooking
9. Remove from oven, cover the turkey once more and let it rest for 1-2 hours

 

GRAVY

What You’ll Need
– Drippings from roasted turkey
– 1/4 cup all purpose flour
– 2 cups chicken/turkey broth or water
– Salt and pepper to taste

Directions
1. Heat drippings over medium heat
2. Add flour and whisk until smooth
3. Slowly add broth and continue whisking until bubbly and thickened
4. Season with salt and pepper to taste
