It seems like 30 is not such a scary number as it used to be, because it is said that 30s are the new 20s. However, for most of us, days of partying hard are behind us and we enjoy a peaceful evening when we relax with a good film and a glass of wine.

Another thing that has changed is the skin and makeup routine. Your skin is becoming different, and requires constant nourishment, to stay moisturized and healthy. You can no longer allow yourself to go to bed without properly cleaning your face. So here are 6 essential beauty tips for women over 30.

Beauty Tips 1- Step Up Your Beauty Skincare Game

It is time to invest in high-quality skincare products. And you’ll be using them. You may have skipped your skincare routine when you were in your 20s, but your 30s just don’t like that.

One of the biggest beauty tips is remembering to properly clean your face every night before bed, prepare it with the right serum, and apply a moisturizing cream that will feed your skin while you sleep. Wake up with soft, baby skin and enjoy your day glowing with a healthy shine.

Beauty Tips 2- Wake up and (Don’t) Makeup

With proper skin care, you will not need much additional makeup, such as foundation. Emphasize your face features with good mascara and a little bit of eyeliner if you like. Lip balm is enough for the day, to keep your lips soft.

Eyebrows are very important and their shape can make you look younger, and your facial features softer. If you don’t want to bother with filling in your brows every morning, think about getting powder brows. It is a semi-permanent brow tattoo, that won’t come off if they get wet.

Powder Brows are extremely popular and will frame your face perfectly, not to mention how much time you will save every morning.

Beauty Tips 3- Be Kind to Your Hair

Make sure you trim your hair regularly because split ends really look messy and unattractive. After you wash your hair, don’t rub it with a towel, to dry. Wrap it in a towel and squeeze it to remove the excess water.

Be especially careful how you dry it. Let it dry on its own whenever possible. When you use a blow dryer, don’t forget to apply products that will keep your hair protected from the heat.

Beauty Tips 4- Be Active, Be Fit

As you are getting older, your metabolism is becoming slower and you put on weight faster and more easily. Joining a gym or a fitness club is a great idea. If you are a couch potato, it can be hard at the beginning, but you become addicted to exercise – your body starts craving it.

Getting enough exercise is sometimes hard for women who have a busy schedule, so make sure you go on foot wherever you can go for a walk with a friend instead of sitting in a cafe and use stairs instead of lifts as much as possible. Getting a bike is also a great idea, and riding it to work is beneficial not only for your health and fitness but for the environment as well.

Beauty Tips 5- Have a Spa Day

Visiting a spa once in a while is a perfect getaway that your body and mind need. It is a way to relax, have a detox and get energy for the following week.

Let yourself have a spa day once a month and get a massage, go to a sauna, just enjoy and clean your body and your skin.

Beauty Tips 6- Sleep Is the Most Important Beauty Routine

It is called beauty sleep for a reason, and one of the biggest beauty tips is making sure you get enough of it. Especially if you work a lot, it is important to go to bed on time and get 8 hours of quality sleep. Even though you have so many things left undone, nothing is that important.

Lack of sleep will affect not only your health but your look. It is proven that people who are sleep-deprived put on weight faster. If you struggle to fall asleep, watch your diet and lower your coffee intake.

Conclusion

The most important beauty tip for your 30s is to not forget about making time for yourself, to do the things you love and enjoy.

Ever had a rash, itching, or a blister on your skin? It sucks, right? Research has it that most people experience inflammation of the skin at one point in their lives. Skin inflammation occurs when the body system responds to a specific allergic reaction or infection, causing swelling and reddening of the skin. Inflammation can be mild or severe. If the condition is severe, one is advised to get medical attention. In the case of mild inflammation, home treatments like aloe vera are ideal.

It is known for its ability to treat wounds and skin inflammation. You can get aloe by extracting the gel from fresh aloe leaves or using over-the-counter (OTC) products containing aloe vera.

When to Use Aloe Vera to Treat Inflammation or Skin Irritation?

Aloe Vera has anti-inflammatory properties that aid in soothing skin rashes. Also, it is known to have antimicrobial abilities that may aid in preventing infections. Moreover, it has been said to have the capacity to moisturize and smoothen your skin without leaving residue as facial creams do.

Research shows that aloe extract cannot fully cure any skin disease or inflammation; instead, it lessens the inflammation’s severity. Although it cannot cure diseases, there are some instances where it can help.

Rosacea

This skin condition is known for causing redness of the skin, especially around the face. The chronic condition has no particular cure, but a change in lifestyle and other preventing measures can reduce the symptoms.

Burns

Ever had sunburns on your face? Aloe vera can help treat these burns. To treat burns using aloe vera, apply the gel extract to the affected area numerous times per day till you feel that the condition has improved.

When your skin feels hot, apply more gel to lessen the effect. The gel may not undo the damage caused by the burns; instead, it will supply a cooling effect and a quick relief to the burns. If the burns are severe, consult the doctor.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is caused by excess accumulation of skin cells. Aloe vera may not stop the accumulation of excess skin cells, but it can help reduce irritation and inflammation in the affected areas.

To manage this condition, use fresh gel extract from the Aloe plant or choose OTC creams that contain aloe vera. Apply to the affected part several times daily. Note that it may take up to a month of continuous application to see a change.

Eczema

Eczema is a common skin condition resulting from the system’s reaction to certain substances, allergens, or heat. Aloe Vera can be used as a home remedy to give temporary relief to the affected skin area. It also can moisturize the skin rashes hence providing itching relief.

Can Aloe Vera Worsen Skin Condition?

Aloe Vera can provide relief to mild skin inflammation and irritation. However, it may not be useful in the case of a severe skin condition. In rare cases, the Aloe gel can worsen the skin condition if the person using it is allergic to the plant.

It can also cause rashes in some cases. While Aloe is deemed natural and safe for most individuals, it can cause skin rashes if they are allergic to the substance.

Allergic to Aloe Gel?

There is only one way to prove if you are allergic to aloe vera – by conducting a patch test. A patch test involves applying the gel on a hidden area of your skin then waiting for at least 24 hours to see if any irritation or rash will develop. If there is no sign of irritation, then you can go ahead and use aloe vera.

When to See a Doctor?

Aloe vera can provide temporary relief to varied skin conditions. However, if the condition persists, worsens, or spreads all over the body, you need to visit a doctor. The doctor may recommend you to a dermatologist who will analyze the underlying causes of the condition and provide appropriate treatment.

Also, see the doctor if you notice any adverse reaction after using aloe gel.

One of the products that have gained increased popularity in the recent past is rose water. In this post, we shall look at the 5 surprising ways you can use rose water for your skin. Read along to learn more.

What is Rose Water?

Rose water consists of rose petals and water. Its sweet smell makes it ideal to be used as a perfume, although it has medical values. It has, for many years, been used in the Middle East and North America for beauty purposes.

Benefits

The skin is among the most critical parts of our bodies. Being the largest organ in our bodies, it protects us against chemicals, UV radiation, and other pollutants. Rose water comes with many benefits to your skin, including:

Helps your skin remain hydrated and nourished

It helps maintains your skin’s PH levels

Calms skin various problems, such as dermatitis, eczema, acne, among others

Controls sebum production

Boosts skin’s barrier function

Contains anti-aging properties

How to Use for a Glowing Skin

Having seen the health benefits of rose water, you may be thinking of giving it a try. If that’s the case, you’re probably asking yourself how to use it for your skin. Don’t worry; we got you covered. Below you’ll see the various ways you can rose water for glowing skin:

Toner

Toning is an essential part of a good skincare routine. While most people ignore toning, it’s an integral part of the skincare regimen as it helps remove dirt, oils, and debris that the cleaner might have missed.

Rose water will help cleanse your skin while maintaining your skin’s PH levels. What’s more, it contains astringent properties that help remove oils from the skin pores. Using regularly will help make your skin free of extra oil. It will also help prevent skin issues such as acne, blackheads, whiteheads, etc.

Unlike chemical-based toners, using rose water as a toner will not cause dryness on your skin. Due to its soothing properties, it will leave your skin feeling fresh.

After-Shave

Thanks to rose water, you can also say goodbye to the skin burns and rashes after shaving your legs or any other part of the body. Due to its calming effect, this beauty can help soothe your skin and reduce inflammation. For better results, consider spritzing it on the shaved area.

Makeup Remover

Most people, especially those with sensitive skin, have a problem finding a makeup remover right for their skin. Thanks to rose water, you don’t have to use irritating makeup removers anymore.

It can help dissolve makeup and oils on your skin, just like a regular makeup remover (if not better).

Moisturizer

Dehydration is another common skin issue that can cause many problems, including rashes, redness, tingling sensation, and premature aging. While drinking water is an excellent way to keep your skin hydrated, it’s sometimes not just enough. Luckily, rose water can help moisturize your skin, giving it a healthy glow.

Facial Mist

Face mists come with a myriad of uses. Among other things, they can help restore your skin’s PH levels, hydrate the skin, and cleanse tone.

Rose water will come in handy if you are out and about a lot. It can help you remove the dirt and sweat accumulated on your face when you’re outside. What’s more, it will help hydrate your skin and give a refreshing feel due to its heavenly smell.

Side Effects

Unless you’re allergic to roses, rose water is safe to use. Even so, it would help if you did due diligence before buying rose water to ensure that it doesn’t have any added substances. However, as with any other new product, it’s advisable to do a patch test to determine whether the product is suitable for your skin to have it become part of your skincare routine.

Having acne as a skin condition can be terrible. In severe cases, a lot of the skin is covered in it. People with acne tend to feel self-conscious about it. They feel that people are judging them because they believe in the myths that acne is caused by too much greasy food or having dirty skin. Neither of these suppositions is true.

Acne can have adverse effects on a person’s self-esteem because it affects their appearance. A lot of acne sufferers spend a lot of time trying to cover it up because they are embarrassed by it.

Acne Defined

Acne is one of many conditions people can have that affect the skin. When acne develops, it is due to the hair follicles of the skin becoming clogged. Oil and dead skin cells accumulate in the follicles, causing the appearance of blackheads and pimples.

The oil that clogs the pore to form acne comes from the sebaceous glands. That’s why acne tends to occur on the face, chest, upper back, and shoulders. These are areas that have a high concentration of sebaceous glands.

The Process of Forming Acne

In the initial stages of acne, the hair follicle and its pore become clogged. The follicle wall is pushed outward, which creates a whitehead. It is covered by a layer of skin. Sometimes, the blockage isn’t covered by skin. It is exposed to the air, causing the dead skin and oil to darken, forming a blackhead.

Acne worsens when the blocked hair follicles are infected by bacteria. Sometimes, it does not take a bacterial infection to cause inflammation of the hair follicle. The inflammation and infection cause pimples. A pimple is a red bump on the skin which has a white center. It appears when the infection or inflammation occurs near the skin’s surface. When it is present deep inside the follicle, the result can be cyst-like lumps beneath the surface of the skin.

The infection and inflammation can make it very painful. Over time, the spots heal and disappear, but they are often replaced by new ones in the same area or somewhere else on the skin.

Symptoms of Acne

Acne presents as:

Whiteheads and/or blackheads

Little red bumps with no pus at the tips, called papules

Papules with a tip containing pus, called pustules

Solid lumps beneath the skin’s surface, called nodules

Pus-filled lumps under the surface of the skin called cystic lesions, which cause discomfort

What Causes Acne?

The predominant cause of acne is the blockage of the hair follicle by oil and dead skin cells. It can be worsened when the sebaceous glands produce excessive quantities of oil. A bacterial infection in the skin can also cause an acne outbreak. An excess of androgens, which are a type of hormone, is also linked with acne.

Who is at a Higher Risk of Acne?

Age is a factor in the outbreak of acne. It tends to be more prevalent during the adolescent years. Girls and women also report that it is related to their menstrual cycles, with the buildup to menstruation characterized by the appearance of acne. However, it should be borne in mind that acne can happen to anyone, regardless of age or gender. People with a family history of acne are predisposed to getting it.

Stress tends to make it worse. A lot of people with acne report subsidence in the outbreak if they reduce their exposure to stress. Medications such as corticosteroids, lithium, and testosterone can cause or worsen acne. If you start using new prescription medicine and experience an outbreak of acne, consult your doctor to find out if the two are linked.

via @JulyPI/Twenty20

Treatment

The first resort is products available in-store. These include special face washes and other products that get rid of them. Always test the product on a small area of skin first to see if there’s a negative reaction.

If these self-care products don’t work, consult your doctor. There are stronger medications they could prescribe for you. If you’re able to, it’s best to see a dermatologist who is a doctor who specializes in skin conditions.

The medications prescribed for this condition often have side effects. Be aware of what they are so that you make an informed decision before using them. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience severe side effects.

via @christinhumephoto/Unsplash

CBD

Before turning to potentially harmful medications, think about natural alternatives like CBD oil products. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound found in the cannabis plant. Unlike its counterpart tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD does not produce the ‘high’ people associate with cannabis.

CBD can help to lower high levels of hormones that can lead to outbreaks. It functions with the body’s endocannabinoid system, regulating the systems in the body to maintain a state of balance. In addition, CBD can act as an anti-inflammatory, which will alleviate the redness, swelling, and discomfort caused by acne.
