Tracie England has been hosting karaoke for a long time–years before she opened her own karaoke bar, but that was only a couple of times a month. At Tracie’s Place Restaurant and Karaoke in Hamilton, as she likes to say, “they’re rocking ’till 2 AM every night!” Yes, every night. If you haven’t ever experienced karaoke at Tracie’s, add it to your bucket list.

Karaoke For Everyone

The list of songs fills several enormous books. From rock to musicals, feel-good oldies, even songs in other languages. No matter what song is in your heart, there’s a pretty good chance that Tracie will have it. I often go with friends that I’ve met through performing in musicals. We tend to sing show tunes when we’re there.

Is singing in front of a crowd not your thing? It’s just as much fun to watch. If you want to try it but you’re unsure, Tracie’s is the perfect environment.

Do you have kids? Until 9 PM, all ages are welcome. Don’t worry, Tracie’s has songs for them too.

Get there a little bit early and prepare to have your heart warmed. I once saw a young boy get up and sing “The Christmas Shoes” (if you’ve heard the song, you’ll understand why I was convinced that he was trying to make us all cry.) And don’t be nervous about bringing kids to a bar either, the staff and patrons are all accommodating.

Creating a Safe Space for LGBTQ+ Folks

Tracie and her staff also work hard to ensure that the bar is a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals, hosting “queereoke” once a month, in coordination with Queer Outta Hamilton.

They also offer games – they have trivia, pool tournaments, weekly bingo and euchre.

Delicious Eats

Of course, karaoke isn’t the only thing there. Aside from their amazing food (their lasagna and their garlic Parmesan fries are to die for, to name a few) with different specials every day.

A Charitable Establishment

Tracie is very passionate about fundraising, hosting frequent events to raise money for various charities. These include live musicians, stand up comedy, hypnotists and ventriloquists.

In the winter she collects coats and boots to donate to those who need it, as well as toys for children to open on Christmas morning.

Tracie has created a space with a real feeling of community, where you can have fun and help others at the same time. A couple of people that I met there have ended up becoming good friends.
