How To Incorporate CBD Into Your Daily Routine

CBD’s popularity has taken off in a big way. The path from the shadowy world of Marijuana—a cousin of the Hemp plant that CBD is derived from—to mainstream adoption by people from all walks of life is a clear display of attitudes changing for the better. The general public is becoming more informed, more curious, and more confident when it comes to CBD.

Nowadays, the product moves far beyond its previous stigma and is propelled into our daily lives. CBD’s increasing ubiquity has also increased its uses, varieties, and versatility. In this article, we break down tips, tricks, and ideas on how to seamlessly incorporate CBD into your daily routine. 

What Is CBD and What Does It Do?

While hemp and marijuana are related (both are plants under the umbrella of Cannabis), they have widely different uses and properties. The Cannabis plant contains over 80 cannabinoids. One of the most well-known is THC, the psychoactive compound that, in large enough quantities, gets people high, and the one that faces the strictest regulation. CBD is an abbreviation of cannabidiol, an active cannabinoid found in Cannabis. It has similar medicinal properties to THC but is not psychoactive. By definition, Hemp contains little to no THC, whereas Marijuana contains little to no CBD.  

Its popularity has ballooned in part due to the 2018 Farm Bill that legalized the sale of hemp and hemp products, helping Betoken CBD and others commercialize and thrive. There are restrictions on the sale of CBD, though, which include disallowing the use of medical claims in marketing and maintaining a level of THC of 0.3% or less in products labeled as “cosmetic.” (1) 

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are no risks of addiction or dependence with CBD. Its legalization and liberalization mean that people are now using it to help with a range of issues that include everything from stress and anxiety to sleeplessness, seizures in the epileptic, Parkinson’s disease, muscle pain, and Crohn’s disease. However, it’s important to keep in mind that there is not yet definitive scientific evidence to support its benefits for these health issues. (2)

So far, we’ve learned what CBD is, what people use it for, and why it has gained in popularity. Now, it’s time to look at ways of incorporating it into your daily routine. 

Familiarize Yourself With the Range of Products

To incorporate CBD into your routine, you will need to educate yourself on what products are available and what their purposes are. 

Like anything new, there’s a lot of new information to take in, so doing your research is vital. Some of the different products available include:

  • Oil: This usually comes in a small bottle with a dropper in sizes of about 30ml. One way to take it is by putting a drop under your tongue and leaving it there for a minute before swallowing. This section of your mouth is capillary-rich, allowing the oil to enter your bloodstream quickly. Alternatively, you can add it to food, drinks, or a vape pen. Oil is a popular option, as is CBD formulated for stress and anxiety
  • Creams: Creams are a topical solution popular with those suffering from aches, pains, and arthritis. As stated above, there are no scientifically proven benefits in humans; however, studies in mice found some benefits, even restoring movement and feeling in paralyzed limbs. (3)
  • Edibles: CBD edibles usually come in the form of capsules, chocolates, or gummies and are a discreet way to use them. This form is often used to treat anxiety and offers more of a slow-release than CBD is taken orally or through vaping. 
  • Spray: Sprays are another discreet way to take CBD. Taken orally, they are often flavored with peppermint or similar flavors which is good for people who don’t enjoy the typical taste of CBD oil. 

Have CBD With Your Morning Coffee

Sometimes, opposites attract, and that is especially true with the pairing of CBD and coffee. The mellow sensibilities of CBD infuse with and compliment the caffeine-based energy of coffee. Unlike other combinations—such as the relatively untested mix of CBD and ibuprofen—combining the two is largely accepted as being quite safe, and sometimes even encouraged. (4)

You can mix the two by adding a drop of CBD oil to your coffee in the mornings. This is particularly beneficial for weekday mornings when many of us are on autopilot, as it can provide a little spark in your morning ritual. If you’re the kind of person who is particularly susceptible to the effects of CBD, this is best tested on a weekend first to prevent your day from being derailed. 

Also, most CBD users find that consistency is best, so find a routine that works rather than taking it spontaneously. 

Include CBD in Your Workout Routine

There are anecdotal claims that CBD boosts energy before a workout, though these are not yet scientifically proven. There is no strong evidence to suggest you shouldn’t take it before working out, but if you’re interested in CBD’s potential physical benefits, it is best used post-exercising. (5)

After exercising, CBD creams can be applied to sore muscles which might help them relax after strenuous activity. It’s also thought to support bone strength, improve digestion, and possibly decrease performance anxiety. (5)

Always Keep a Variety

If CBD becomes part of your daily routine, you’ll want to bring it with you everywhere—keys, wallet, and CBD: the essentials. As its popularity increases, more varieties are becoming available with an emphasis on discretion. Many great CBD products like gummies, oils, and sprays are designed to be easily carried in your bag or pockets. 

Include CBD in Your Nightly Routine

Medical experts generally advise that you have a 30-to-60-minute wind-down period before you go to bed. This should include the dimming of lights, putting screens away, and for some, CBD. This can become part of your pre-bedtime routine in the form of facial or body creams, or it can be through the use of oil or spray.

CBD is gaining popularity, and fast. The convenience and availability of the products have helped this increasing ubiquity, and it’s great for CBD users too. 

These products can form a part of your morning and nightly routines, as well as your exercise regimen. If they prove beneficial, the wide variety of CBD products now available means you can carry them with you whenever you leave the house.
