For those that don’t know, First Fridays is the food truck festival in Montreal. On the first Friday of each month, food trucks from across the city gather at Parc Olympique (part of the grounds that surround Olympic Stadium,) serving up delicious food all evening long.
Each year, First Fridays begins in May and ends in early October. The inaugural 2019 event is happening on Friday, May 3, with the final event taking place the Friday before Thanksgiving, October 9. Doors open at 4:00pm and close at 11:00pm. Over 50 trucks typically congregate along Esplanade Financière Sun Life, making First Fridays one of the largest food truck festivals in the entire country.

Veteran First Fridays food trucks range from Le Smoking BBQ, known for their seriously tasty ribs, to Le Casse Glace (ice cream really does make the perfect summer dessert, don’t you agree?). In addition to the classics, some food trucks serve seriously inventive dishes, such as Quai Roulant’s legendary sushi pizza, Le Gras Dur’s Krispy Kreme donut cheeseburger, or Bleu Homard’s Quebec-meets-Acadian street food options. But rest assured, whether you’re in the mood for dim sum or Belgian waffles, First Fridays will have something to suit your taste buds. I’m partial to Mr. Puffs deep fried donut holes (move over Timbits!), and the wood-fired pizzas offered at No. 900 Pizzeria’s food truck.
More than being a foodie’s paradise, First Fridays also features live bands and DJs, pop-up bars, and even family friendly activities.
This year marks the eighth anniversary of the wildly successful festival, so there’s no time like the present to check it out for yourself! Plus, admission is always 100% free, making it the ideal spot to spend a balmy summer’s eve. What are you waiting for?
