With the launch of Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix, many people are following her advice and getting rid of items from their homes that don’t “spark joy.” Even thrift stores have been cashing in on Marie Kondo’s decluttering craze. Donations to thrift stores have tripled since last year at this time. Forget spring cleaning, it seems that a New Years cleaning is the trend. I’ll admit, even my husband and I did a massive purge of our own home.
The Marie Kondo Effect
Marie Kondo first came to be known as a tidying expert after publishing her book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. If you haven’t read the book, you can get some of her house cleaning tips on the Tidying Up Netflix show, where she goes to people’s homes and “helps clients clear out the clutter — and choose joy.”
